A Few Words on Willpower

There are three kinds of self-control powers that help us attain what we want in life, according to Kelly McGonigal, PhD, author of "The Willpower Instinct." They are: the I-will-power (the ability to motivate yourself to do something), the I-won't-power (the ability to motivate yourself to not do something), and the I-want-power (the ability to recognize, in moments of weakness, what it is you truly want). Only by exercising all three of these powers can we hope to achieve what we truly want out of life, whether that is getting that job promotion, finishing that ultramarathon, or losing those pesky fifteen pounds.
